King’s Birthday
The 5th of December is the King’s Birthday Celebrations (Father’s Day). King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest reigning monarch, is well beloved and deeply respected by all Thais old and young. The occasion of his royal birthday provides his loyal subjects the opportunity to express their reverence for him. All over the country, buildings and homes are elaborately decorated and the area around the Grand Palace is spectacularly illuminated.
In Hua Hin early in the morning around the Tower Clock Hua Hin residents, government officials, students and teachers gather at both sides of Naeb-Kehard Road to make a merit for 99 monks. More than thousand people turns up for the merit ceremony.
Later on, in the Queen’s Park, Chief District Officer and Hua Hin preside over merit ceremony for ten monks. During the merit monks pray for HM the King.
In the evening at the Queen’s Park many Hua Hin residents dressed in yellow gather again. This time the celebration ceremony of HM the King’s birthday is lead by Governor of Prachuapkhirikhan. He offers his blessing to HM the King and all present sing King’s song. Then Governor, Vice Governor, Mayor and Hua Hin residents walk 3 times around the Queen’s Park and then go back to Phon King-Pet Park where many shows and band perform until late.
