Kiteboarding Hua Hin
With Hua Hin’s sedate pace of life, it may seem an unlikely spot for extreme sports like kiteboarding (or kitesurfing, as it is called in some parts of the world).
But with shallow waters and a six-kilometre long sandy beach that has been the venue for the Intercontinental Kiteboarding World Cup since 2010, it is the best place in Thailand to ride the wind along with a group of friends. And the best place to learn how to do it is at the Hua Hin Kitesurfing School.
Affiliated to the world’s biggest skateboarding school, Kiteboarding Asia, novices can choose from a one-day Discovery programme, the three-day beginner’s course, or opt for private lessons.
The IKO-certified instructors teach in a variety of languages and us top quality equipment from Cabrinha and Airush. All students are insured and get a level certification at the end of the course.
Kiteboarding
Also on offer here is the newest sport craze sweeping the world, Stand up paddle surfing. An ancient form of surfing, it can be traced back to Polynesia, though it’s most recent history dates back to the 1940’s when the Hawaiin beach boys (or surf instructors) on Waikiki beach used to stand up and paddle out to the break using a one-bladed paddle.
This allowed better visibility over their group of students and also allowed them to take photographs of them. A fun activity for everyone, including children, the course teaches you to keep your balance, move with a paddle, and gain speed.
