Khao Takiab is at the southern end of Hua Hin Beach. It is easy to get to by foot walking on the beach and is near 5 kilometers from the Hilton Hotel. Visitors can still climb series of steps to the top of Khao Takiab and enjoy the panoramic views of the sea and Hua Hin coast line. Now Khao Takiab is easily accessible by car. Phara Nakhon Cave is great for day hiking and while walking up the beach side mountain for a while, visitors will arrive at a famous cave called ‘Tham Phraya Nakhon’. Khao Sam Roi Yod National Park is the first seaside national park of Thailand in the region of 100 square kms. The recreational area is located on the coast between the provincial capitol Prachuab Khiri Khan and Hua Hin. Prachuab Khiri Khan means the Mountain of 300 Peaks. The beauty of the park is the long range of limestone peaks, canals, creeks and beaches.
Kanchanaburi is rich in tourist attractions. One being the Bridge over the River Kwai part of the Death Railway built by the Japanese Army in World War II at a cost of tens of thousands of human lives, mostly allied POWs and forced laborers. The War Cemetery is behind the railway station, containing a total of 6,982 bodies of Allied POW’s which perished during the construction of the Death Railways. There is an additional Cemetery at Chongkai with the remains of 1,750 POW’s. Wat Tham suea & Wat Tham Khao Noi two pagodas, one Thai-style and the other Chinese, positioned together on the hilltop. The Ban Kao Museum houses artifacts excavated from an archaeological site indicating that Neolithic men lived in the area some 4,000 years ago. Two war museums with collections of weapons, pictures and utensils, one at Wat Tai and the other beside the Bridge.
Kaeng Krachan National Park is the largest national park of Thailand, offers good trekking along the mountain paths. You can visit cliffs, rock formations and enjoy boating in the Kaeng Krachan Reservoir. While you are in the national park you can find restaurants and lodging. If you are a bird watching especially watching birds with more than 400 species in the park to look for. I found the trip to be a great relaxing full day trip from Hua Hin.
The Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and Walking Trail are a tribute to thousands of Australian and Allied prisoners of war who suffered and died while working on the Burma-Thailand Railway and in areas across the Asia-Pacific region during World War II. The Walking Trail provides an opportunity for visitors to follow a four kilometer section of the original railway and see first-hand where so many Australians were subjected to horrific conditions and treatment by their captors.
